We have blue boxes and green bins to recycle our waste, why not a similar program for aggregate? Conservative MPP Sylvia Jones has introduced the Aggregate Recycling Promotion Act to encourage the use of more recycled stone. This is a positive development. The Ontario public sector uses more than 50 percent of the aggregate produced in the province. Yet, we recycle just 7 percent of the aggregate removed from old roads, construction sites etc. We lag behind the UK where 24 percent of aggregate is recycled. It’s time to catch up!
