Election Postcard - Front

Thanks to the Brant County Federation of Agriculture, we now have a sense from all four parties where they stand on the issue of farmland protection. The BCFA posed questions about farming and food to the Liberal, Progressive Conservative, New Democrat and Green candidates in Brant County. It’s encouraging to see the parties expressing concerns about the ongoing threats to prime farmland and proposing solutions.

Liberals – Farms Forever, a program that makes it easier for landowners to protect prime farmland through special easements.

Progressive Conservatives – Push for more recycled aggregate to reduce the need for new pits and quarries on prime farmland.

New Democrats – Will work with stakeholders for stronger protection of prime farmland.

Green Party – Protection of all Class 1 farmland and source water regions. Close loopholes in the Aggregate Resources Act and Provincial Policy Statement.
