It was an election night that defied the polls, surprised pundits and made history. The Liberals, led by Kathleen Wynne, won a majority government, bringing stability to provincial politics and, we anticipate, stronger policies for the protection of prime farmland and water resources. The party that vowed to introduce a “Farms Forever” program can now work towards this goal and much more with the support of Food & Water First.
The Food & Water First campaign had an impact on the outcome of the provincial election. Hundreds of lawn signs were planted, 30,000 election postcards were distributed and radio ads aired in farming communities. Our many supporters asked the candidates questions about their position on preserving the rarest agricultural soil in Canada and source water regions. Many politicians took the Food & Water First Pledge and proudly posed with our signs and postcards. The Food & Water First message was heard across southern Ontario.
We thank our many Partners and tireless volunteers for their hard work in spreading the word and pressing the candidates. We look forward to working with the Wynne government on strong policies to protect the land and water that sustain us. The provincial election may be over, but the Food & Water First campaign continues!
