Strengthen and expand. That’s the key request in the submission made by the North Dufferin Agricultural and Community Taskforce (NDACT) and Food & Water First in the provincial review of the Greenbelt, Oak Ridges Moraine, Niagara Escarpment and Greater Golden Horseshoe Plans. As you’ll read in our Land Use Review Submission, we believe the current plans should be preserved and extended to include rare farmland outside their boundaries. Thanks to the many Food & Water First Partners who added their names to our submission. We are grateful for your support and enthusiasm!

The Mayor of Oakville is a staunch defender of the Greenbelt and envisions a greater role for it. Rob Burton wrote a column for the Oakville Beaver, touting the benefits of the Greenbelt and proposing a unique foodbelt.

“Leading up to the municipal elections last year, this network urged the Province to grow the Greenbelt by an additional one million acres (including 200,000 acres for farming) to create the Province and Canada’s first foodbelt.”

Great idea! Read Mayor Burton’s column Have Your Say On The Greenbelt.
