No Local Land, No Local Food

The Ontario government recently re-introduced the Local Food Act and while it promotes local food, it doesn’t contain any protection for the land that grows it. Food & Water First is calling for the preservation of Ontario’s Class 1 farmland and source water regions. This stand is echoed in an editorial published in the Guelph Mercury newspaper. It quotes Ken Currie of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture: “It’s time that Ontario understands our increasing population cannot continue to spread out over farmland in low-density housing.”
