A Dry Future?

While Ontario has experienced an abundance of rain this spring, the United Nations is tackling desertification in other parts of this thirsty planet.  This is “World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.” The aim is to draw attention to the risk of droughts, water shortages and the need to keep our agricultural soils healthy and productive.

Meanwhile, the Canadian government pulled out of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification last month. We are the only country in the world to do so, even though our prairie lands are prone to drought conditions and our precious farmland is at risk.
