The University of Guelph’s Ontario Agricultural College has appointed a new dean and he’s a supporter of the Food & Water First movement! Professor Rene Van Acker has been named to the prestigious position and will take over his duties in September. He is a long-time ally of Food & Water First, dating back to the Stop the Mega Quarry fight which defeated the largest proposed quarry in Canadian history on thousands of acres of Class 1 farmland in Dufferin County. Following that victory in 2012, he has continued supporting the Food & Water First campaign with his expertise and advice.
In the spring of 2014, Professor Van Acker travelled to Shelburne to address a Food & Water First public meeting. His speech was so impressive, In the Hills magazine published it in full: The Value of Farmland Take a few minutes to read it and discover why the new dean of the Ontario Agricultural College is going to be a hit on campus and in the wider community!
