The Orangeville Banner and Creemore Echo have published great stories and photos from Celebrate Food & Water First! The Echo features some stunning pictures of Bill Lishman soaring over the Melancthon area in his ultralight with the words “Food And Water First” emblazoned on his wings.
Meanwhile, the Orangeville Banner focused on Bill Lishman’s comments to the more than 500 people who attended the event on August 18th. Lishman is trying to protect 18,600 acres of Class 1 farmland in Pickering that’s slated to become the home of a new airport. He called on those who stopped the mega quarry to help save the Pickering Lands. He also suggests that Foodstock be held in Pickering. Anyone hungry for another Foodstock?!
Photographer and writer, Juli Lyons, has also written an elegant essay about her day in Melancthon. Juli writes there is something potent and restorative about re-connecting with the land that feeds us. So true.
Earlier in the week, CTV Barrie aired a report on the Celebrate Food & Water First festivities. Except for mistakenly introducing the location as Honey Harbour instead of Honeywood, it’s a great story about how different groups fighting for the protection of farmland and water are coming together.
