Food & Water First candidates

Election Postcard - Front

Ontarians go to the polls October 27th to choose new municipal leaders. Mayors and councillors have great influence over land-use decisions in their regions. Towns and cities have Official Plans which regulate how their land is developed or preserved. The municipal elections are an opportunity for voters to have their say and to ask candidates whether they support Food & Water First.

Over the past year, several town councils and Dufferin County voted to become Food & Water First communities. And it’s not just rural municipalities that are speaking up. Toronto city council voted unanimously last fall to support the Food & Water First campaign. (The GTA is home to the second-largest food processing sector in North America. Los Angeles is #1.)

Toronto: A Food & Water First city!

Before October 27th, please ask your municipal candidates whether they will work to protect Ontario’s Class 1 farmland and water resources for this province’s $34-billion agri-food sector, the 740,000 jobs it provides and our food security.
