As the year draws to a close, we would like to thank all of you for supporting Food & Water First. It’s been another great 12 months in the campaign to protect Ontario’s rare agricultural soil and water resources. We could not have succeeded without you.
Food & Water First supporters and Partner groups seemed to be everywhere! The Green Living Show in Toronto, the first Barnfest near Shelburne and the Sacred Water Walk on the shores of Lake Simcoe.
You wrote letters to the government, called for a stronger and expanded Greenbelt and urged federal candidates to protect the Pickering Lands.
In this International Year of Soils, you helped put the protection of Ontario’s soils on the public agenda. Many more Ontarians now understand the importance of preserving the land that feeds us. Our provincial and federal governments are also aware of the growing momentum for action.
2015 ends with some unfinished business. We’re still awaiting the long-promised “Farms Forever” program in Ontario. The federal Liberals have vowed to finally put an end to the 40-year fight over the Pickering Airport. And the fate of the Greenbelt is still uncertain.
However, given the hard work everyone has done in 2015, we expect good news on all fronts in 2016!
Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year!
