Toronto is a Food & Water First City!

As we head into the Thanksgiving weekend, there’s much to celebrate. It’s been yet another remarkable week in the Food & Water First campaign and our latest success occurred in downtown Toronto! City councillors voted to support a motion by Councillor Josh Matlow who kindly and enthusiastically backed our efforts. The largest municipality in Canada is now a Food & Water First city, joining rural communities in calling on the Ontario government to protect the province’s Class 1 farmland and source water regions.

PICKERING LAND TOUR

Land originally owned by Tapscott family now leased from Feds 6563-1

There are terrific reviews and coverage of this week’s tour of the Pickering Lands. Congrats to our friends at Land Over Landings for organizing an informative visit of the 13,000-acres of Class 1 farmland the federal government wants to pave over for an airport and other development.

NDACT chair Carl Cosack joined the tour, as did several NDP MPs. The Toronto Star also went along for the ride and published this report.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend and enjoy the bounty of the land that feeds us!
